Nestled within the Flinders Ranges in South Australia and framed by the walls of Wilpena Pound and the Elder Range. Arkaba offers some of Australia’s most spectacular outback scenery. It is the perfect destination for wildlife watching, bush-walking, photography or just taking in what makes the Flingers Ranges so special from the sights to the sounds of outback Australia.

“Our ultimate mission is to conserve our natural habitat and this guides everything that we do. Our future is inextricably linked with the health of our environment” – Charles Carlow, Founder

2019 marks the 10-year celebration of conservation at Arkaba. They have created a safe haven for 5,138,150 native animals and counting. Motivated by their achievements, they have an up and coming conservation plan for the future, Arkaba continues to make a great impact on environmental and animal conservation.

The original layout of the 1850’s homestead has been retained, giving this home an extraordinary personality and charm. Each of the guestrooms are unique with their own character, with and inclusive ensuite bathroom and shaded veranda opening up to views of the surrounding ranges. The rooms are air-conditioned/heated and the mix of king and twin beds have premium mattresses, organic cotton sheets and a choice of pillows to ensure a great night’s sleep.

Spend some downtime in the comfort of the library with deep leather armchairs and a large stone fireplace, creating an atmosphere of seclusion for enjoying a quiet drink and a good book. Enjoy dinner on the terrace overlooking the ranges. In the heat of summer, the swimming pool overlooking the Arkaba Creek is a welcome retreat after a morning or day spent exploring the bush.

The chef uses foraged bush tomatoes, piquant quandongs, native pears and acacia pods to create upscale bush tucker which will delight your tastebuds. Keeping up with the local charm, the open bar serves exclusively South Australian wines and beers, mainly from the nearby Barossa and Clare Valleys.

Arkaba has adopted a ‘buy local’ principle and the head chef uses the very best of South Australia’s produce to craft the food program with a few native elements to add a unique intrigue and interest.

The menu may include mouth-watering dishes such as: Twice cooked Berkshire pork belly served on port wine braised radicchio, apple Perry puree and glazed muntries (native cranberries); pan-fried scallops served with pea puree, champagne sabayon, Yarra valley caviar and Barossa valley prosciutto; or butternut pumpkin and goats cherve tortellini served with a walnut Beurre noisette and crisp sage.

Your dining experience will be one to remember. With exquisite dishes served over an old wool classing table on the outdoor terrace. The ever-changing light and sounds of the bush create the perfect atmosphere. A fire-pit by the corner of the garden is the perfect refuge for after dinner with a glass of wine of star gazing over the ancient landscapes.
