Housed in a 17th-century building, which served as the New Oriental Hotel for over 100 years. The enchanting grounds of Amangalla are spread across nearly 9,000 sqm on the Galle peninsula, defined by the UNESCO-protected 400-year-old fort.

An iconic part of the Amangalla resort is the stunning 1860’s garden which offer a serene sanctuary. It is also renowned for its award-winning spa treatments which feature five treatment rooms and two hydrotherapy suites. The garden is the perfect place to unwind and wander through after a busy day exploring the city or following a purifying Ayurveda experience in the spa complex.

Beyond the walls of the remarkable fortress, lie the luscious green tea plantations, tranquil temples and the exhilarating prospect of whale-spotting from November to March. Amangalla is a great choice for those seeking to combine city, coastal and countryside pursuit.

Amangalla Rooms & Signature Rooms

Each room reflects Galle Fort’s rich colonial legacy. The elegant white décor creates a sense of space and serenity within the historic hotel, which has welcomed guested for over 150 years.

All rooms include a writing desk, chaise lounge, kingsize bed, Wi-Fi, dining table and personal bar. The bathroom includes a free-standing bathtub and separate shower.

Garden House

A private space set within Amangalla’s mature garden. The Garden House is a one-bedroom house with a spacious living and dining room. Enjoy views over the immaculate garden from the comfort of your wrap-around balcony. 

Amangall suite

This charming suite overlooks the fort ramparts and the harbour through the leaves of Para rubber trees. This one-bedroom suite features elegant mahogany furniture and ample space with a seperate living room and bedroom. 

Chamber

Set in Amangalla’s Church Street wing, the Chamber Room enjoys views over the treetops towards the ramparts of Galle Fort. The bedroom features a kingsize bed and opens up to a spacious balcony.

Overlooking the Dutch-colonial Groote Kerk (Great Church), Amangalla’s Bedroom feature jackwood floors and elegant colonial-influenced furnishings.

The Dining room

The Dining Room offers a nostalgic snapshot of a bygone era, with white-clothed tables and sparkling antique silverware. The Dining room creates an intimate setting for classic Sri Lankan and European cuisine, including superb curries, succulent Australian steaks and old-school lobster thermidor.

The daily changing menu is inspired by local produce which the chef finds at various markets in Galle. Guests can accompany the chef on his market rounds prior to a Sri Lankan cooking class.

Zaal

Have afternoon tea at the library or at Zaal where you can also have an after dinner drink or a fresh mango Bellinis at sunset. Enjoy the fresh air and ambiance on the balcony with relaxing jazz music playing in the background.
