The Seychelles have long been praised as the most perfect, unspoiled islands in all the oceans.
Isolated in the Indian Ocean, located 1,000 miles of the east of mainland Africa and northeast of Madagascar the Seychelles archipelago contains some of the most pristine and spectacular tropical islands on earth. The Inner Seychelles is an area of 43 granite islands, marked by centuries smoothed boulders, glorious white beaches and crystalline turquoise waters back dropped by dramatic cloud-wreathed peaks clustered around the main island of Mahé. To the south, a chain of 73 tiny coral atolls and island reefs extend for hundreds of miles to the East African coast to form the outer Seychelles Islands The main island of Mahé, the largest in the Seychelles is green, relaxed and colourful. Mahé harbors the international airport, the capital Victoria, most of the Resorts and more than 90 percent of the country’s 75,000 population.
Praslin, with a population of 6,500 people, is Seychelles’ second largest island. Lying 45km to the northeast of Mahé, it measures just 10km by 3.7km so a leisurely tour around the island by car to take in the major sights will take between 2 and 3 hours.
The Seychelles islands are blessed with a year-long warm, tropical climate. Daytime air and water temperature seldom vary from the low mid 80’s and as they are just a few degrees south of the Equator, the Inner Islands rarely endure typical storms or high winds. The more humid rainy season (when the ocean is usually calm) typically runs from November to April, though the downpours seldom last more than an hour or two before the sunshine breaks through.
Mahé is the transportation hub for island-hops and day excursions to neighbouring islands and all other islands within the Seychelles. All scheduled domestic flights by Air Seychelles originate from Mahé to the serviced islands. Most flights are daily.
